The Talented Mr Janković
Lecture by Bojana Popović
After the Great War, Paris became a modern Babylon whose ateliers and cafés were occupied by the most creative personalities of the epoch. One of them was Dušan Janković, who came to the French capital in 1916, together with many other Serb refugees. Upon completing his studies in painting at the National School of Decorative Arts, being enchanted with the creative spirit of the interwar Paris, he developed many of his talents – for painting, graphics, architecture and, in particular, for applied art. Janković succeeded in creating his distinct expression that was appreciated by both his Parisian and Belgrade contemporaries. Today, this expression places him among the most significant artists of Serbian applied art and design.
