In Memoriam: Milton Glaser (1929–2020)

Milton Glaser, famous American designer, was one of the founders of the graphic design studio Push Pin (1954) and the New York Magazine (1968). He also designed the trademark of New York, I Love NY (1976). After the terrorist attacks in 2001, Glaser designed a poster with the inscription “I Love NY” and the additional text “More Than Ever” (MAA inv. No. 24482). He has been the only graphic designer to be awarded he National Medal of Arts (2009).

In early 2017, the Museum of Applied Art received a special gift from the United States: 25 posters by Milton Glaser designed between 1966 and 2016. The signed posters were a personal selection by the author and they were brought to Serbia, to the Museum of Applied Art, by Glaser’s friend Mirko Ilić, another world-famous designer. The exhibition Posters by Milton Glaser from the Collection of the Museum of Applied Art (10–31 May 2017) was an excellent opportunity to present to the audience this remarkable collection.
