Nena Skoko Snežana (1960) graduated in 1984 from the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design in Belgrade, Textile Department, where she also earned her master’s degree in 1998. She received advanced professional training from Professor Kirsti Rantanen at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, as part of a student exchange programme between the Yugoslav Ministry of Culture and Finland (1989); in the class of professors Magdalena Abakanovicz and Anna Goebel at the Poznań Academy of Fine Arts and Design as a recipient of Polish Ministry of Culture’s scholarship (1991-1993); at Goldsmiths, University of London, as a guest postgraduate student of Professor Janis Jefferies (1994); in New York (1999) as a fellow in the CEC ArtsLink residency programme for hand papermaking Dieu Donné Papermill. Member of ULUPUDS (Applied Artist and Designer Association of Serbia) since 1985 and ULUS (Fine Artist Association of Serbia) since 1999. Freelance artist since 1992. She gained Distinguished Artist recognition for her artistic work in 2005.
Nena Skoko Snežana has been staging solo exhibitions and participating in group exhibitions since 1986, and as of 1989 she has also run many workshops and given scores of presentations in the country and abroad. She set up and ran art workshop LOOM (Lavatorium of Artistic Thoughts, 1995-1998) focusing on research and education in visual arts. In 2000, she founded the independent art association “Punctum for Art Experiment”, bringing together scores of associates – artists from the country and abroad. Nena worked as a designer at Takovo food company (Gornji Milanovac/Belgrade, 1985-1992), as well as a teacher at the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design (1994-1996), Academy of Fine Arts (2004-2012) and Mod’art College (2007-2009) in Belgrade.
Works by Nena Skoko Snežana are featured in collections of the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade, Telenor company, Atelje 61 in Novi Sad and of the Museum of Jean-Lurçat and Contemporary Tapestry in Angers, France.
