Doctoral art project - Ivana Desnica
Mentor: Emerita Professor Мilanka Berberović, Faculty of Applied Arts, University of Belgrade
The concept of the doctoral art project “Leather recycling in the function of haute couture” by PhD candidate Ivana Desnica is based on the knowledge acquired during edification in the field of modern clothing and long-term training in industrial processing and the production of leather, as well as the innovative processes during research. In accordance with the current attitude towards the problem of disposal and use of industrial waste, and in order to preserve the environment using 3R concept design as the most complete and fastest method to solve this problem, the artist with her experiential knowledge and refined taste has arrived at completely new forms of fashion items.
During the research process and the application of new technologies, Ivana Desnica has mastered the very demanding craft skills of leather processing. She combines the knowledge of the traditional craft procedure with her innovative way of processing with a special tool that she made and adapted by hand to shape the leather, making elements from the minutest sizes to the larger ornamental parts of future models.
The exhibition organized at the Museum consists of completed pieces of clothing, jewelry, fashion details, as well as photo documentation that accompanies this project.
If viewed within an extensive historical perception, clothing, jewelry and accessories are part of the spiritual culture of a nation and an era. In this sense, the works of Ivana Desnica make a significant contribution to the fashion design of our present age.
