Workshop presentation
Workshop topic: The Park – a Space of Orientation in the Urban Landscape
Coordinators of the workshop: Aleksandar Bobić, Tanja Manojlović, Milena Putnik and Milena Lapčević
(Contemporary public park as kind of urban structure has ambivalent meaning: should we treat it as a space for re-creation and re-production of an organized society? or would it be better consider it a space for resistance to and re-shaping of imposed rules of urban life?
The workshop will monitor possible forms of social communications within the park on Topličin Venac square, situated in the centre of a historical whole in the heart of Belgrade, on a plateau in front of the Museum of Applied Art.
As a location, the park is remarkable for dynamic presence of different social groups – young, members of various protests, retired people, passers-by, dog lovers, students, tourists and workers. The aim of the workshop is to map different situations and uses of the public space of the park and actualizes societal, social and cultural aspects to the level of conceptual ideas. Suggestions, conclusions and results of the research will be presented in various textual, visual, tactile and multimedia formats as sketches, drawings, series of photographs etc.
The long-range aim of the workshop is to develop possible strategies for urban public parks of the future as venue, place of exchange and important element of the urban fabric.)
