Scene Work Ahead – a Walktrough

Cultural Institutions – Independent Productions – Public Space – Ad Hoc Actions

When selecting the works received through an open call we were guided by the idea to present the material created in different working conditions and forms on the scene of performing arts. The selected works expand and examine the offered categories (stage design, costume design, media use in peroformance design, total performance design, performing arts photography, light design, use of space for performance), different models of production conditions and approaches to the production of art material. Institutional productions are presented through the works by Jelena Janković, Zorana Petrov, Ana Vujanović and Marta Popivoda, Aleksandar Ramadanović, Andreja Rondović, Veljko Stojanović and Nikola Zavišić. Various forms of works created on an independent or self-organised scene are presented through the productions by Karkatag Collective, Srđan Veljović, Mia David, and team of authors gathered around Station – Service for Contemporary Dance: Igor Koruga and Maja Pelević, Jovana Rakić, and Marko Milić. The site specific spaces that are being repurposed to performative ones are the subject matter of the project Borderline Beauty by the team of authors and works by Nikola Isaković, Branislava Stefanović and Sofija Mitrović. The use of locations in public space and their redefinition through critical intervention, by establishing new relations and transforming them into the stage or scenic environment, is the subject matter of the works by the collectives The Applause Institute and Urbanium, and of the installation Broken Light.

Such an approach to the selection process introduces contemplation on the models of work in art, and draws attention to the diversity of approaches to the scene design conditioned by social reality.
